This play set is for ages 2 and up. It will probably be most enjoyed by kids old enough to imagine scenarios with the different people. The set contains a city bus, a bus stop, and 12 human figures. The figures each portray a different profession, like construction worker, policeman, bus driver, chef, and office worker. The figures are wood that has been smoothed and painted. They are 6 cm tall, 2.3 cm wide, and 1.5 cm thick (about 2 3/8″ x 7/8″ x 5/8″). The bus stop is made of wood with some painted stripes. It is 9 cm tall, 10 cm wide, and 5 cm deep (about 3.5″ x 4″ x 2″). The bus is wood with plastic wheels and axles. The interior of the bus has a seat/slot for the bus driver and two slots for the passengers. The bus sides and back window are even with the figure’s heads, so the people are hidden inside when seated. The bus is painted with windows and doors. The bus is 12.6 cm long, 4.3 cm wide, and 7.8 cm tall (about 5″ x 1.75″ x 3 1/8″).The axles and wheels look like the weakest point of this whole set (as they’re plastic). However, the set looks like it should still last well under most play situations. The set is made in China. My niece is still a little young for this set (at 18 months old), but she’s enjoying moving the bus and playing with others with this set. And, hey, I’m enjoying playing with it (with her), too.

While not the most extensive set of wooden play sets I’ve seen, it is well thought out and the value is top notch. It has a bus that actually HOLDS the wooden people… that’s just ingenious. Even my 1-1/2 year old daughter LOVES putting the guys inside the bus. They also fit on the bus stop. The car rolls easily enough and there is a wide variety of people to keep her interest. I just wish it had a few more vehicles and stops… but if you get this and some other small sets, you can easily make a cute little town. The price is REALLY cheap and reasonable, and as usual Melissa & Doug keeps it interesting with the quality and ideas they put in their toys!
